About Yankee Springs

Spanning over 5,200 acres in Barry County, Michigan, Yankee Springs Recreation Area is one of the state's most diverse outdoor destinations. The landscape — sculpted by glaciers thousands of years ago — features rolling hills, kettle lakes, bogs, and dense hardwood forests that put on a spectacular show every fall.

With more than 200 campsites and over 30 miles of multi-use trails, Yankee Springs draws hikers, mountain bikers, anglers, equestrians, and winter sports enthusiasts year-round. Multiple lakes offer swimming, fishing, and boating, while the surrounding woodlands provide habitat for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and a rich variety of songbirds.

The recreation area is also home to two historic outdoor centers — Long Lake Outdoor Center and Chief Noonday Outdoor Center — both offering cabins, bunkhouses, and group facilities built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

Glacial Landscape

Yankee Springs sits within a region shaped by the Wisconsin glaciation. The rolling terrain, kettle lakes, and esker ridges create a varied landscape that supports exceptional biodiversity. Devil's Soup Bowl — a deep, bowl-shaped depression formed by a buried ice block — is one of the park's most iconic geological features and a must-see stop along the trail system.
